POLICE have declared a “mass casualty incident” after a tourist boat crashed at Table Rock Lake in southern Missouri.
Several people have been taken to the hospital and multiple agencies, including divers, are on scene.
Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said there were fatalities when the amphibious vehicle carrying 31 people, some of them children, capsized and sank, television station KY3 News reported.
Rader said he did not know how many people died, and divers were on the scene searching for passengers, KY3 News reported.
The Stone County Sheriff’s Office could not immediately confirm the report.
The Southern Stone County Fire Department said on Twitter there were more than 30 people on board the boat when it crashed.
They wrote: “Crews from multiple agencies are on scene of an MCI “Mass Casualty Incident” “tourist type boat involved” this is on Table Rock Lake, Stone County, Branson Missouri. Taney County assisting. Several patients transported…”
At least six patients are being treated at CoxHealth Medical Center in Branson, Missouri a hospital spokesman confirmed.
According to local weather reports there was a severe storm in the area at the time of the incident.
